ReThinkHPVaccination Representatives Attend the 1st PERCH Joint Action Consultation

Representatives of the ReThinkHPVaccination project recently attended online the joint action consultation of PERCH (PartnERship to Contrast HPV) on 8th March 2023 - Consultation of the joint action PERCH and HPV/HBV related projects on the Commission proposal for a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers. The project's representatives provided constructive feedback on the vital topic of HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccination.

In the subsequent months, continuous discussions will unravel the synergies between PROTECT-EUROPE Project, PERCH Joint Action, and ReThinkHPVaccination Project. These dialogues will encompass areas of mutual interest such as the knowledge repositories, the development of training materials, and the initiation of knowledge and awareness campaigns.

The core objective of the consultation was to shed light on the ongoing discussions of PERCH and associated projects in response to the Commission's proposal for a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers.

Announced under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Commission proposal for a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers forms a significant part of the Prevention Package. This package, inclusive of an update on the 2009 Council Recommendation on smoke-free environments, is aligned with the Commission Work Programme 2023 under the pivotal priority “Promoting our European Way of Life.” Its anticipated adoption is in the third quarter of 2023.

The Commission aims to assist Member States in addressing vaccine-preventable cancers, especially emphasizing the augmentation of vaccination against HPV and HBV (Hepatitis B virus). A 'Call for Evidence' was previously made available on the Commission's 'Have Your Say' website from 9 January to 6 February 2023, with the obtained replies presently under analysis.

The Commission's intent for the targeted consultations (spanning February-April 2023) is to comprehend the efforts and actions undertaken, or those required at the national and EU levels, concerning HPV and HBV vaccination uptakes, monitoring, and accessibility.

PERCH and related projects have been urged to consider the guiding questions and to actively participate in the discussions slated for the meeting on 8th March 2023.
